Etna Acres Golf Course - 18 holes

Gene and Joby Kaufman along with Gene’s dad, Burlin, started building the golf course in 1959 from the family farm.  Etna Acres opened on July 4, 1960 with 65 golfers and hot dogs cooked in a popcorn popper.  The back nine was opened in 1993.

Etna Acres Golf Club is a uniquely designed 18 hole golf course.  The front nine features elevated greens and tees that hide behind various creeks and ponds.  The back nine has a links style design, with hills and heather and making any errant tee shots a tough play.  We welcome you to Etna Acres where our family atmosphere promises to make your golf trip an enjoyable experience.

We are a member of the National Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary and are a sancutary for wildlife.

Pehkokia Woods

This preserve takes its name from the Miami word for “peace.” A small pond near the entrance mirrors surrounding trees and shrubs, giving you a feeling of peace just before you enter the forested area. Rolling upland woods are dominated by oak and hickory trees, with some maple, beech and black cherry. This upland forest is dissected by a number of 20-foot-deep ravines brought about by natural erosion. The mixture of wide and narrow trails makes this preserve a pleasure to hike.

Tel-Hy Nature Preserve

In Hebrew, Tel means “high” and Hy means “life,” and the names, individually or together, are appropriate. From a bluff high above, visitors have a splendid view of the winding Wabash River. There is life along the river and on the land above — beech and maple trees, sycamores and willows, and a variety of birds and wildflowers, including wood ducks on the river; scarlet tanagers and wood thrushes in the trees; and wild ginger, celandine poppy and rue anemone blooming in season on the ground

Sunken Gardens

This enchanting park, where graceful fieldstone footbridges span a “U” shaped pond, and stone stairways lead visitors to the gardens below, was erected out of an old abandoned stone quarry.  The quarry’s natural rough-hewn stonewalls provided a living amphitheater, which architects incorporated in the designing of the ponds, walks, bridges, flowers and foliage. Today, the addition of a Christmas light display during the winter season has attracted thousand to this multi-level heaven.

Sunken Gardens/Shakespeare Gardens is a historical show place. It continues to be respected landmark of restored beauty and community pride.
