Veteran’s Day Parade and events
November 11, 2017
The annual Veterans’ Day Parade will take place on Veteran’s Day, Saturday, November 11th at 10:00 a.m. The parade will begin at Huntington North High School and proceed down North Jefferson Street and turn onto West Park Drive, concluding at the Veterans’ Memorial at Memorial Park for a ceremony honoring Veterans. Veterans are invited to walk or ride in the parade. Any Veteran who wishes to take part, or anyone willing to provide floats or vehicles for the parade, can obtain more information from the Huntington County Veterans Service Office, 358-4863. There are currently 22 units signed up for the parade so far, and parties wishing to participate need to sign up by November 6.
The second annual Veterans Day 5K will also commence at HNHS at the start of the parade.
New this year: A new event for the 2017 celebration will be Huey Chopper rides – where six veterans will be taking an honor flight. The rides will also be open to the public for $100 a ride. To ride on the Huey choppers, a person has to fit in the seat and become a member of the American Huey 369 for $100 per year. For becoming a member, the person gets a free ride that day.
The Huey will be landing at HNHS around 9:45 a.m. and the six honor flight members will board around 9:50 a.m. The Huey will then do a fly-over the parade carrying the six honorary veterans to the Veteran’s Day Ceremony at Memorial Park.
The ending time for this event is approximate.
