DESCRIPTION:Salamonie Lake’s Senior Monday Luncheon\, Nov. 3 The Senio
r Monday Luncheon will be held at noon\, November 3 at the S
alamonie Lake Interpretive Center\, located in Lost Bridge W
est SRA. Anyone age 50 or older is welcome to attend. Guest
speaker Alan Daugherty is a retired Huntington County teache
r who has served as a Bluffton News-Banner weekly nature col
umnist for two decades. In retirement his interest turned to
researching and writing books concerning local history and
people who “fell between the cracks.” He wrote a biograp
hy of Edward Bruce Williamson. Williamson’s life and world
accomplishments will be the focus of Daugherty’s presenta
 tion. Williamson\, a bank president\, became recognized on s
ix continents in discoveries regarding dragonflies as well a
s becoming a world leader in hybridized irises. Although Ind
iana’s first State Forester Charles C. Deam may be a more
recognized name\, Deam himself acknowledged he owed all his
achievements to his “buddy” Williamson. Williamson disco
vered the Deam Oak\, not Deam. At one time\, beds of William
son flowers bloomed in every Indiana State Park as a result
of Williamson’s gift to the state. The program begins with
a carry-in meal at noon. Guests should bring a side dish to
share\, a beverage\, and their table service. The main dish
of chili dogs will be provided by Friends of Upper Wabash I
nterpretive Services. A donation will be accepted to help de
fray costs. Seating is limited. Reservations may be made by
calling 260-468-2127. Upper Wabash Interpretive Services is
