Local Roots: Exploring Huntington County’s Growers and Makers
Huntington County is full of creative, passionate people who are bringing fresh ideas, flavors, and beauty to our community. From native plant nurseries to family-run flower farms, local entrepreneurs are cultivating more than just plants — they’re cultivating connections. We recently partnered with Smiley Face Media to capture the stories of a few of these inspiring local businesses in a video you won’t want to miss.
Wyatt Way Landscapes & Nursery
Founded just a few years ago, Wyatt Way Landscapes & Nursery is all about native Indiana plants, wildlife, and sustainable landscaping. Owner Wyatt began the business after 16 years in landscaping, driven by a love for nature and a desire to spend more time with his family.
Wyatt Way offers landscaping design, installation, and maintenance using native plants, invasive species removal, and a plant nursery boasting over 100 species grown from local genetics. What makes them stand out isn’t just the plants — it’s Wyatt’s dedication to educating customers and the community about the role of native plants in local ecosystems.
“Seeing people change their view on gardening regarding native vs. invasive plants is one of the proudest moments,” Wyatt shares.

Morning Star Homestead
For a completely different kind of harvest, Morning Star Homestead offers seasonal flowers, free-range eggs, and local honey — all grown and produced by Maria and her family just a few miles from Huntington. What began as a hobby has grown into a full-fledged family operation, driven by faith, family, and a deep love for the land.
“There’s something so magical about growing flowers to cut and then bringing them into the home,” Maria says. “From the moment they’re cut, they’re on a timeline… they open, they put on their show, and then they’re gone. You have to stop and notice them.”
Morning Star Homestead offers farm stand sales every Friday and Saturday, bouquet subscriptions, DIY flower buckets, wedding florals, and community workshops — including flower-based natural dye activities for kids.
