Salamonie and Mississinewa lakes to hold free Fishing Derby, June 1
Kids ages 2 to 14 are invited to a Fishing Derby near you! Fishing derbies will be held at Salamonie and Mississinewa lakes, on June 1. Adults must be present with Fishing Derby participants.
Youth age categories are 2 - 5, 6 - 10, and 11 - 14, with first-, second-, and third-prize winners for largest fish in each age category. The largest fish overall will be awarded a grand prize. Each participant must use bait provided by DNR staff.
Each property will host its own derby, with winners announced at each property. Participants for Salamonie Lake will meet at the Wildlife Management Pond located in Lost Bridge West SRA. Mississinewa Lake participants will meet at Bostwick Pond located in Miami SRA.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Rules and regulations will be announced at that time. Youth fishing time will be 9 - 10:30 a.m. with awards at 11 a.m. Participating youth and their adult must be present to win awards.
Advance registration is requested by calling the Upper Wabash Interpretive Services at 260-468-2127.
June 1 is an Indiana Free Fishing Day for all State residents.
Property entrance fees apply, $7 per in-state vehicle; $9 per out-of-state vehicle. Annual entrance passes are available for purchase.

On Free Fishing Days, Indiana residents do not need a fishing license or a trout/salmon stamp to fish the state's public waters. All other rules such as seasons, bag, and size limits apply.
Free Fishing Days are an excellent opportunity to learn how to fish, take your family fishing, or introduce a friend to fishing.
